Tasting Notes
The RUGIENS is located on the slopes with a rocky terrain. It is exposed in one of the best positions, facing south, south-east. The subsoil is a mix of marl and limestone; followed by iron elements which help give the rich colored wine. The RUGIENS has robust and perfumed characteristics hinting on licorice and violet. It’s considered as a strong tannic wine with a lengthy palate. A wine that can last at least 10 years with correct cellaring.
About the Wine Maker
One of Burgundy's best kept secrets is this domain, which has been run by Claudine Gaunoux since the late 1990s. Throughout the year, she works meticulously in the vineyards to prune and tackle potential plant and grape problems at the source. As a result, Claudine harvests only the best grapes, which are then vinified and matured in stainless steel tanks. 'Wood is make-up for bad wines' is her adage. The fact is that her wines - with pure fruit flavors and minerality - are different from others. And as the connoisseurs know, Gaunoux's wines can be stored for a brilliantly long time.
