This appellation is unique as it is considered to be a regional appellation although it is limited to a restricted area. The vineyards run parallel to those of the Côte de Nuits (to the west), but are higher in altitude (between 290 and 450 metres). Over 510 ha are planted with the Pinot Noir grape. The soil resembles that of the Côte de Nuits (limestone and marl). “Les Dames Huguettes” is without a doubt one of the best terroirs in the Hautes-Côtes as it is located just a few hundred metres from the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. During World War 1 the vineyard was maintained by the women and this label is a tribute to them.
The average ages of the vines is 35 years old and naturally produces few grapes. Surrounded by walls, the grapes always reach full maturity. Furthermore, the vines produce very small bunches of Pinot Noir grapes with very thick skins, which guarantees superb concentration of the wine that is made with them. The grapes are manually picked and selected, and 100% destemmed. The wine is aged in one-time used oak barrels.
Thanks to the fruit of the Pinot Noir, Hautes-Côtes-de-Nuits wines delight the palate of the informed wine taster. By a steady and brilliant color, this wine invites you to wine tasting offering a palette of aromas nuanced with red and black fruit such a heady bouquet.
In the mouth he astonish with its length and its power but also by its fineness and generosity. Although classical in its making-process, it will surprise the wine taster and will encourage into few infidelity.
In all circumstances, it will accompany the Burgundian cooking, but will surprise with an inventive cuisine as a scented beef carpaccio or a lamb mignon with a coriander crust.
