Tasting Notes
Distinguished and an excellent representative of the appellation, Château l'Arrosée's wines combines power and finesse. 1993 might be an under-appreciated vintage, but it was really good in Saint Emilion and Pomerol. The wine is at its peak at the moment.
About the Wine Maker
Historically there was an underground spring on the site, hence Château l'Arrosée's name (the watered one). The vineyard lies on Saint Emilion's southern slopes, next door to Château Ausone. It has the good fortune to benefit from a similar terroir of clay and silica-limestone soil.
One section of the vineyard, with a particularly southern exposure, receives a great deal of sunshine and so produces very well-ripened grapes. Furthermore, the clay-alluvial-limestone soil provides a well-regulated supply of water and minerals.
A second area of vines is planted on sandy-alluvial soil at the base of the hill. This twin terroir contributes to the wines' complexity and character.
