Tasting Notes
Pommard is exclusively Pinot Noir. The appellation "TAVANNES" has a red dark colour. It has less personality and character than that of a 1er Cru, but it still has a strong nose and palate.
TAVANNES' aromas are considered as concentrated red fruit, it needs a few years to open, which will in turn, shape the elegance of this wine.
Pommard TAVANNES shows a vinous mouth, it has aromas of cherries, blackberries and spices. The body has fine tannins which soften after allowing some breathing time.
About the Wine Maker
One of Burgundy's best kept secrets is this domain, which has been run by Claudine Gaunoux since the late 1990s. Throughout the year, she works meticulously in the vineyards to prune and tackle potential plant and grape problems at the source. As a result, Claudine harvests only the best grapes, which are then vinified and matured in stainless steel tanks. 'Wood is make-up for bad wines' is her adage. The fact is that her wines - with pure fruit flavors and minerality - are different from others. And as the connoisseurs know, Gaunoux's wines can be stored for a brilliantly long time.
