Pommard les Grands Epenots is located South-East on the slopes of Pommard. The village itself is situated in the heart of the vineyards. Its soil is marl, chalk and iron. The iron gives Pommard it’s peppery and ‘masculine’ style. Our Grands Epenots are some of the longest rows of vines in the Côte de Beaune, this means that we are collecting all different types of soil that’s formed over the years. From the iron and clay soils on the bottom and the chalkier, limestone and marl soil at the top – these rows have a great natural drainage system if ever we have a heavy downpour.
This Pommard Grands Epenots is a deep rich red, it has a subtle hint of earth on the nose, followed by the rich aromas of black cherries and with a touch of pepper. Very long finish, with great soft tanins.
This wine could still be kept for years to come if cellared correctly. Easily another 10 years. We have bottles dating back to 1947.
Aged for 18 months in temperature controlled inox tanks then filtered and bottled.
