Tasting Notes
After the harvest the grapes are 100% destemmed. Then the wine is being made using traditional methods: 20% of the wine is fermented in large barrels (demi-muids) and 80% in cement tanks. After that the ageing takes place for 30% in demi-muids and 70% in cement, for roughly 6 months. Annually an average of 15,000 bottles are being produced.
This 100% Syrah comes from various vineyards in the Northern Rhone valley: a part around the village of Cornas and a part situated north of Tain l'Hermitage. Because of the different soil compositions (ranging from granite to granite-rich sandy soils and sedimentary terroir) this wine has a typical Northern Rhone character: Full in flavours and fruit-intensity, with classical spices and peppery tones, as well as a supple structure making the wine nicely drinkable at a young age.
About the Wine Maker
The land and the people who tend it share the same history. A history which grows from generation to generation. At the origin, one man, Jean Orëns Ferraton. Vigneron, and son of a vigneron. A region basked in sun, the Rhône Valley. It was 1946. Michel, his son, inherited the same passion. He decided to give a new dimension to his father’s vineyards. The first Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph Ferraton were brought into the world. A close friend of the Ferratons’, Michel Chapoutier brought his know-how. In 1998, the vineyards were converted to organic viticulture, then certified, before embracing the culture of bio-dynamics.
