Product description

The story

Christophe Semaska, a former accountant, bought Chateau de Montlys in the Côte Rôtie in 1988. This chateau had miraculously survived the French Revolution and subsequent wars. The neglected vineyards were replanted and in the course of the years expanded.

The grapes for this wine come from the Collines-Rhodaniennes area in Languedoc, with limestone and stony clay terroirs. Vinification and maturation in stainless steel tanks with temperatures controlled between 14° and 18° for 6 months. Malolactic fermentation is blocked to preserve freshness.

The production is very small, and the quality high. Semaska produces culinary wines that will surely appeal to collectors and lovers of high end Rhone wines!

The grapes

100% Viognier from the area of Collines-Rhodaniennes

Tasting notes

Very pretty wine with a pale yellow with gold glints, and an open floral nose. Fresh and fruity on the palate.

Pairing

As an aperitif, cold meats, casserole eggs, asparagus with mousseline sauce, grilled fish, smoked salmon, veal escalope with cream.

About the wine maker

Semaska owns a few of the most beautiful terroirs, of which he produces separate cuvées. He aims to create wines with optimal elegance and souplesse, almost in a Burgundian way. His wines are rich in fruit, with a nice balance between the ripe fruit and acidity. They are elegant with beautifully integrated oak, giving the wines a nice 'lift.
