Seduced by the quality from the terroirs of this region of France, Jean-Luc Thunevin decided to create a partnership with Jean-Roger Calvet and buy a few hectares of vineyards in 2000. These vineyards are located in Maury with beautiful terroir of black schists. The Constance cuvée was created in 2003 and became one of the best ‘ vin de pays des Côtes Catalanes’ which is now upgraded to Côtes du Roussillon Villages.
The wine is a blend of 50% Grenache and 50% Carignan from vines up to 45 years old. Hand harvested with strict sorting of the grapes and aged for 14 months in concrete tanks, it is a wine that lets the fruit speak: black cherries, licorice, ground herbs and hints of leather with an impressively textured mouth feel. Parker rates the wine 88-90 points (#218, April 2015) and calls it ‘ year in, year out over achiever’.
