Herencia del Padri, by top winemaker Bernard Magrez, is produced in the Priorat region from vines located in the Catalonia region, 120 km south of Barcelona, on steep slopes at 300 meter altitude. Vines were first planted by Carthaginian monks in the 12th century. Alongside Rioja, Priorat is one of the only wine regions in Spain to qualify as DOCa, the highest qualification level for a wine region according to Spanish wine regulations.
Vineyards are planted on a special soil called llicorella, made of a brown slate mixed with rocks. Mountains surround the area and the vines are tended by hand. Wines are mainly made from Garnacha (Grenache) - producing inky wine with intense fruit flavors - and Carinena (Carignan) that brings structure to the blend.
This wine is concentrated and full of character; a bright and dense colored wine. The nose offers cocoa and grilled chestnut aromas. The wine is really elegant and well balanced, with strong yet harmonious tannins and chocolate flavors on the finish.
