This wine from Jurançon is grown in the harsh climate of the Pyrenees, with influences of the southern heat, the Pyrenean rigor and Atlantic challenges. The terroir is composed of clayey and silty soil with an important quantity of aluminium. This rough area produces great and pure white wines with expressive fruit, balanced acidity and lots of minerality.
The grape blend ferments slowly until it reveals a fresh and aromatic dry white wine. The wine is then processed into sparkling wine thanks to a traditional method. This second fermentation in bottle will give birth to the fine bubbles that delight our palate. This fermentation is total, that is there remains very little sugar as in the dry Jurançon. Maturing in tanks ten months allows this wine to mature and to be ready to drink.
Camaralet 60 % and Gros manseng 40 %.
Clear, pale, shiny silvery-gold colour. The nose offers a complex array of freshly-cut lime, orange peel and hay aromas, delightfully prickly and with an almost palpable minerally, smoky depth - a fabulous nose! Hints of peach/apricot add just a suggestion of richness, which manifests itself on the palate in a generous way. Delightfully concentrated and intense, yet wonderfully fresh and mouth-watering.
This wine is above all an aperitif wine that will seduce by its freshness and its delicacy. You can accompany it with refined cuisine such as oysters and smoked trout.
About the wine maker
This is a small, family-run estate, with just 6.5 hectares under vine, and has been handed down from father to son since the 18th century. The current winemakers are brothers Sébastien and Fabrice Bordenave-Montesquieu. Although not certified as such, Sébastien and Fabrice employ many of the principles of biodynamic viticulture. Detailed attention is paid to the working of the ground and the influence of the moon.
Like the nature of the Pyrenees, the cultures of the peoples living there for centuries, and the rugged climate, the Montesquiou family has embraced the elements to reveal the quintessence of this unique terroir.
